Why don’t you enjoy a weekend out with your family before the madness of the new school year with great amusements for all? Just before taking pencils, books and backpacks, celebrate with us the bicentenary of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal!

Developed with Burnley Canal Trust and partners, this year the festival will celebrate 200 years of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. The special event will navigate from Sandygate Square through Burnley.

The festival will be hosted in splendid settings through multiple stop-offs along the “Straight Mile”- the embankment that carries the canal 60 ft above Burnley! – All activities and entertainments will be happening from 11am to 5pm along the canal side towpath.

At Sandygate Square, visitors of all age will enjoy and discover slow culture across foods, craft, making art and scenic performances. You will experience the “Super Slow Way”, a programme including the “Lifeboat”, the slowest ride in the world which is a participatory installation about slowness, kindness and gentleness.

At the Inn on the Wharf (Burnley Wharf), colourfully decorated narrow boats will add to the carnival atmosphere, along with Punch & Judy and The Insect Circus Museum. Transport yourself through three centuries of insect and circus heritage and get mesmerized by dancing snails.

At Finsley Gate Wharf, you will celebrate the beauty of Burnley woods and the natural canal environment. Discover also Stephen Turner’s Exbury Egg, a temporary, energy efficient self-sustaining work space where you can learn how to combine our way of life with natural resources in a sustainable relationship. That’s not it! The space will be transformed into an arena of art and performances.

What is even better with this special weekend is that entrance to the festival is FREE, most of the events are FREE, the parking is FREE and the Holiday Inn Express Burnley is only 1.5 miles away from the festival!
